Apple Watch 9 haptics revert to off, alarms not working

Haptic alarms suddenly stopped working with my Apple Watch 9 iPhone 16 combo.

When I go to the Sounds and Haptics setting in the Watch app and change haptics to default or prominent it just automatically goes back to off and won’t save the setting.

Can you change other settings on the watch, using the Watch App on the iPhone?

Can you change the haptics directly on the watch in Settings -> Sound & Haptics?


Unpairing and setting the watch up as a new device, without using the latest backup would be the way to rule out defective data.
