I need to learn how (and exactly what) to download app software for my ScanSnap IX500 that is compatible with my MacBook Air's silicon chip. I am running OS Tahoe 26.5.2. The current app will apparently no longer work after my next OS upgrade. The ScanSnap device itself works well.... for now. Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

I also believe Linux has support for this scanner as well.
Otherwise if you only use (or want to use) macOS, then you will need to keep a Mac on Tahoe or an older version of macOS.
FYI, when you make a future scanner purchase you should make sure the scanner supports an actual standard like TWAIN (multi-platform) or for macOS specifically ICA (Image Capture Architecture).
Checking the website, the IX500 is called and end of cycle device and urging people to update to the IX2500.
Usually, when companies make such decisions, software support for them usually ends very soon. So, in all likely hood they will not be making software updates.
So, our options are the ones that @HWTech has mentioned.
Rosetta 2 is going away in macOS 28 - not in macOS 27. However, it is my understanding that the latest releases of macOS 26 (Tahoe) are already issuing warnings about Intel apps that will stop working in macOS 28.
You should contact the app's developer and bug them to provide an app that is Apple-silicon capable. Maybe if there is enough demand by users of the device, they will provide a solution since this is apparently a sought-after device, still in use by many people.
Hi, and thanks for the input! I was hoping for a miracle cure but... no such luck! Looks like a new Scansnap is on the horizon... I can't complain too much, this one has lasted for over 10 years which is almost immortal these days for tech devices! :-)
You have a year and a half to find another solution. Longer if you just don’t upgrade to macOS 28.
For replacements, that company has been abandoning their products for decades. We used them at work and had to replace them when we upgraded Windows. Then, it happened again on another Windows upgrade. We have since moved to networked multi-function printers so don’t use the individual scanners anymore. I don’t know if there is a better company for those types of scanners.
