How to bypass old device passcode requirement for new iPhone and Apple Watch setup?
Hello everyone,
I recently and purchased a new iPhone 17 along with a new Apple Watch SE.
I signed into my iPhone using my existing Apple ID. The login was successful, and two-factor authentication is working properly (I receive OTPs on my registered number). I know my Apple ID password.
However, when accessing iCloud services, the phone asks for the passcode of my previous iPhone (which I last used around 4 years ago). Unfortunately, I do not remember that old device passcode.
Now the bigger issue:
When pairing my new Apple Watch SE:
- The watch pairs successfully at first.
- During setup, after entering my current iPhone passcode, it again asks for the old device passcode.
- When I am unable to provide it, the setup fails and the pairing process goes into a loop.
- I have to reset the watch and start again, but the same thing happens.
So effectively, I am unable to complete Apple Watch setup due to the old device passcode requirement.
To clarify:
- Apple ID login works.
- 2FA works.
- This is not an Apple ID password issue.
- It appears related to encrypted iCloud data or Keychain verification from a device used 4 years ago.
- Device is not in my iCloud account under Devices anymore
My questions:
- Is there any way to remove this device from being tied to my account?
- Is there a recommended clean approach to set up both the iPhone and Apple Watch without access to the old passcode?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
