I have a NEW MAC Studio 4. I was able to burn a project onto a DVD a couple of days ago-now I can't. Does the DVD burner have a shelf life? It's at least 8 years old. OR does the MAC 4 Studio require another ?

Is this an Apple SuperDrive or an aftermarket CD/DVD drive..?
The Desktop and Finder Sidebar will only show the CD or DVD and not the empty CD/DVD drive.
For some troubleshooting steps:
Test some different CDs and DVDs in the drive.
Test the CD/DVD drive connected to a different computer.
Test the CD/DVD drive connected to the Mac Studio's other USB-A port.
Test the CD/DVD drive connected to one of the Mac Studio's USB-C ports using a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Test something else in it like a music CD or movie DVD.
If it is an Apple SuperDrive make sure that you have it right side up...?
If you have used it for burning a lot of disc's, then the laser lens could be dirty.
Try running a dry cleaning disk in it and then give it a good blowing out with caned air.
