Downloaded podcasts disappear from iPhone SE

Downloaded podcasts keep disappearing from my iPhone SE. I live in a rural area that doesn't have good cellphone service, so I often download podcasts over WiFi that I can listen to when I'm offline. It's very frustrating when I download a bunch of stuff and then it's just... gone... when I try to listen a few days later. I have an iPhone SE running iOS 26.5.2, my apps are all up to date, and I have plenty of storage. I've tried setting my phone to remove played episodes automatically (or not), and that doesn't make any difference. Restarting the phone hasn't helped. I've done that, saved some episodes, and had them disappear anyway. Sometimes they disappear immediately, sometimes days later. I haven't seen a clear pattern to the disappearances, except that it seems to happen with some shows (including ones where I have a subscription) and not others. Could this be a bug related to going in and out of cell/WiFi range, as I do very frequently? Or of draining the battery to nothing before recharging, which I accidentally do on occasion? It's driving me nuts!

Downloaded podcast episodes disappear due to an internal app bug in iOS where housekeeping routines or feed refreshes delete unplayed files. Going in and out of cell range triggers faulty sync attempts that wipe downloads for specific subscribed shows, while completely draining your battery can corrupt app cache states

Use the Save Feature: Explicitly tap "Save Episode" instead of just downloading, as saved files are protected from automated cleanup routines.

I tapped "save episode" while I was in WiFi range but that did not download the episode for later listening offline. Do I have to do both things—save it and download it—in no particular order? I'll give that a try.

For whatever reason, the disappearing problem seems to be happening mainly, or perhaps even exclusively, with podcasts from Pushkin shows.

Thanks for responding to my question! I've searched in vain for answers in Apple Support, Reddit, or elsewhere online. Most people don't understand that there are still some of us in 2026 who are frequently out of cell range.
