MacBook Pro trackpad protrusion caused display damage

I noticed that the trackpad is not perfectly flush; the top left and right, and bottom left edges are slightly protruding,

⚠️ That waves a Big Red Flag. Your battery may be swelling and pushing out the trackpad. The trackpad should be just a tiny bit below the surrounding deck.

Here are my standard "home checks" that I use to check for a swollen battery:

— Unexpected trackpad and/or keyboard behavior.

— The gap between the display and the deck is not even when the display is closed.

— The gap between the bottom plate and chassis is uneven in places.

— Some of the screws that secure the bottom plate are raised or have popped out.

— The trackpad surface is higher than the surrounding deck surface.

— The computer "rocks" a bit on a known flat surface. I find solid-surface and granite countertops very effective flat test surfaces.

Swelling batteries can get bigger by the day. There is enough energy involved to deform the heavy, machined upper deck. Have Apple evaluate as soon as possible. Any delay can mean more damage that could reneder your computer non-repairable.

Based on many reports here, Apple does not replace just a trackpad or a keyboard. They install a refurbished deck assembly with a new battery, keyboard and trackpad. That assumes they find no other damage.

There appears to be a problem with the internal battery failure causing damage to your display from the expansion of the trackpad. Only a certified Apple technician can determine the cause and offer a complete solution.

If the damage was due to the trackpad misalignment, I would think that the only way to prevent further damage is to have the alignment done. Otherwise it will continue to do what it did in the past. I would NOT place paper or other protective shields between the display and the keyboard or trackpad as that may cause additional damage.
