Xcode Build Problem: Permission denied

Hey, I'm pretty much completely new to Xcode but I've done some programming in other languages.
When I tried building my first really simple "beep" app (which I made from a tutorial), I encountered an error (and 16 similar errors descending from the first one):

error: unable to create '/Users/williamstahlberg/Desktop' (Permission denied)
error: unable to create '/Users/williamstahlberg/Desktop' (Permission denied)
Unable to create directory /Users/williamstahlberg/Desktop/Beeptest.build/Debug/Beeptest.build
etc. etc...

How can I solve this? I reinstalled Xcode but that didn't help. I also tried temporarily changing the Desktop perms to 777 but that didn't help either.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I do apologize for kind of placing this in the wrong category, though the two categories are quiet similar.

Are you williamstahlberg or did you start out with a .xcodeproj belonging to someone else?

Wow, I can't believe I didn't think of that. I recently got a new Mac and made a new account with a different name, but I imported all my old stuff to this new one, including the Xcode pref file with the custom build location that is williamstahlberg (my old username.)

Anyway, thanks a ton for solving my oh so simple and embarrassing mistake!
