iPhone 16 Pro: iRig 2 input fails; internal mic active

Hello,

l’m trying to use guitar effects/amps apps downloaded on my iPhone 16 pro. One is called Midiguitar 3 and another is called Tonebridge. I am using a guitar interface called irig2. I have used both the Apple Usbc dongle and a TRSS adapter to connect the guitar interface to my phone. The problem is that either the adaptors are not registering as an input which means I get no response when I strum my guitar and no indication that the app is receiving input or on some occasions when I have changed enough haptic settings, I might get some indication of input but the external phone microphone stays on. When I talk it triggers Midiguitar3 so obviously something isn’t not working correctly.

Whatever irig2 is, it's not an Apple product. You need to contact irig for help. But I don't see this as an App in the App Store, which would be required for it to work on an iPhone, so that may be the issue. You can't just download software to an iPhone and expect it to work.

Thanks. The irig2 is a device you buy from IK multimedia. It is an interface (a little black box) between your guitar and the apps on your computer, iPad or phone. They have downloadable apps like Amplitude on the App Store. But let’s take GarageBand for example. There are also guitar amp effects you can use in GarageBand. You have to have a guitar interface like the irig2 to use those amps in the program. You plug your guitar and headphones into the interface (black box) and use a dongle or TRSS adapter cable to plug the irig2 into your phone or iPad or computer.

The problem I’m having is that when using the Apple dongle or a similar TRSS adaptor, I plug my guitar interface (black box) into my iPhone or iPad and somehow they don’t recognize this as a device, therefore not turning off the external microphone. When I look at the input indicators in GarageBand in a track there’s just nothing there to indicate input. Strum your guitar and there’s no indication that it’s getting input. I’m definitely going to ask for help on the IK media forum. . Thanks for your help.

You need to guidance from irig. I honestly, think you're the first person I've ever seen on the forum ask about this device. And it's not an Apple product, so you likely won't get much, if any support here. I hope you get it resolved, however.
