iPad Air 5 Touch ID not working after update

My touch ID is no longer working after updating to 26.5.2 software on my iPad Air 5th generation. The option for Touch ID is grayed out and when I try to toggle it on or re-enter a new fingerprint, the screen says “unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please try again later.”
