Photos app delete shortcut not working on M4 MacBook Pro

Photos deleting pictures. Hi I seem to have a problem with my 2024 M4 14inch MBP and deleting photos,

I highlight a photo, press X and Return and the photo is deleted, after a few pictures this does not work instead needing the curser placed over the delete sign and a left click on the track pad, it as though it loses the connection ? this only seems to have happened since the last update, Tahoe 26.5.2 is my latest version, any help or thought or anyone else having this problem, my hobby is photography so after a day out with my camera I usual need to delete quite a few photos. Thanks for any help. Pete

I'm sure I'm going to appear clueless here, but how is pressing X better than pressing ⌘-Delete? That always works.

As for deleting, I don't delete pictures. After going back over decades of pictures, I've found that some of those deleted pictures could have had information in them, a background, perhaps, that I wish I had, now. I separate the keepers from the losers with a Favorite symbol, and Smart Albums take care of the rest. I rate the keepers with star keywords. I also use multiple Libraries so that the losers are not synchronized with my iPhone and iPad.

Here's a bit of how I do that:
