MacBook display cracked during normal handling

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experienced a similar issue.

I recently opened a support case with Apple regarding a cracked MacBook display. The device was never dropped, struck, or subjected to any accidental damage.

The damage occurred when I picked up the MacBook, and my fingers were touching the display area as I lifted it. Shortly afterward, the display showed signs of cracking. I was surprised because this was normal everyday handling and not an incident that I would expect to damage the screen.

I spoke with a Senior Advisor and was informed that the display repair would cost approximately ₹47,300. Given the circumstances, I find it difficult to accept that a display on a premium laptop could become damaged from such ordinary use.

I have already submitted an escalation to Apple Support India explaining the situation, but I have not yet received a response.

Has anyone dealt with a similar display issue where there was no drop or accidental impact?

I've seen similar reports here in the Community from time to time.

Unfortunately for most, this damage is not covered under the terms of the standard one year warranty.

Apple offers the AppleCare+ supplemental warranty as an additional subscription that covers repairs for accidental damage. If you choose to buy this coverage then the cost to repair your laptop would be much less than what you have been quoted.

Also, it goes without saying, coverage must be purchased before any damage has been done, otherwise fraud.

For myself, I rarely add warranty coverage for stuff I buy, but I do for my laptops due to the nature of using these computers as I travel or work outside of home. It just makes sense given how easily and quickly something might happen.
