MacBook Air (M2) not turning on or charging

Hi everyone,

I have a MacBook Air 2022 (M2), and it has been working perfectly until today. Last night I simply closed as usual, I didn’t shut it down. Today, it won’t turn on at all.

I’ve tried charging it using both the MagSafe charger and USB-C, but neither works, and the MagSafe charging light doesn’t turn on. The charger isn’t the issue, as I tested it on another device, and I also tried a friend’s charger with the same result.

I’ve already tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, several key combinations I found online to force a restart, and leaving it connected to the charger for a while, but nothing has worked.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions for what else I could try before taking it to Apple for repair?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Air, macOS 14.6

Boot Up in Safe Mode:

While in Safe Mode, certain system files (caches) are fixed, and login items do NOT pen at login. Go Here: Start up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support

Clear the Screen's Caches:

It can take a few tries, but hold down the following keys together upon boot. Hold down the power button while performing this. The F5 key is keen here.

  • [command + option + F5 + Power
  • [command + option + shift + F5 + Power]

Disconnect all external devices just in case one of them is causing a problem. Also make sure to connect the USB-C charging cable directly to the laptop.

If neither MagSafe or USB-C is allowing it to charge the battery, then the laptop has some sort of hardware issue. Usually when I see this occur on an Apple Silicon Mac it has been a defective Logic Board, but there is a possibility of one of the ports having a problem which affects the others and/or charging circuit, or maybe a bad battery or a battery that ended up with 0% charge.
