Apple Books app not downloading books on iPhone

I am unable to download any book in the Apple Books app.

My home Wi-Fi is fine, the Books app is set up to download over cellular. It is not doing so in either fashion.

I have over 100 GB of free space on my phone. I also have over 100 GB of free space in my iCloud.

In frustration I removed the Books app, and now none of my books are downloaded. The covers for the book will appear in my list, however I cannot read anything. I would really like to read the books that I have paid for.

I am running iOS 26.5.2, on an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Literally everything else works on the phone. Phone calls are fine text messages are fine, I can run Diablo on my phone. I am at my wits end trying to figure out why only the Books app refuses to download.
