Macbook early 2009 white
runs os X snow leopard can update it I think but I want the nostalgic feel.
what can you even do with this MacBook, does it still run the internet? I only really use my 2017 iMac to surf the web , watch YouTube and download songs onto my iPod. So I would be doing the same with the macbook
If this is a MacBook (13-inch, Early 2009), it cannot run anything later than El Capitan. Although you may be able to make connections to https sites, the versions of Safari and other browsers that run on El Capitan are ancient – and may not be very useful for browsing the Web.
I don't think you have a MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009) or a MacBook Air (Mid 2009), especially since you say that your machine is white, and they had aluminum cases. It wouldn't matter, as they also are limited to El Capitan.
Among major browsers, Firefox has by far the best record of supporting old versions of macOS. But El Capitan is so old that Firefox 78 ESR for El Capitan stopped receiving "critical security updates" nearly five years ago.

Snow Leopard is the last version of Mac OS X that supports Rosetta 1 – for running old Mac OS X / PowerPC apps on an Intel-based Mac. In its day, it had a reputation as being a stable bug fix release.
However, it predates the Internet-wide change to stronger forms of https security. Just to put El Capitan on that old Mac, you will likely need the help of some more modern computer (Mac or PC) to help get a copy of the .DMG file containing the El Capitan installer onto that Mac. Even after you install El Capitan, you'll have a machine which isn't that useful for Web browsing and which might be close to suffering hardware failure (given its age).
If you wanted an old Mac as a historical curiosity, or to run old 32-bit games that you already had (that won't run on any recent Mac), then maybe this, or another Intel-based Macs that can run something before Catalina, might be of interest. But for general use, you'd be better off getting an Apple-Silicon-based Mac. Only four models of Intel-based Macs can run macOS 26 (Tahoe), and no Intel-based Macs will receive macOS 27 (Golden Gate).

Connecting to modern internet sites is becoming more problematic every day because older browsers don't have the security protocols required.
You might look for a compatible Firefox browser at mozilla.com.

FYI, if it is an "Early" or even "Mid" 2009 model, then it can at most run macOS 10.11 El Capitan.
If it is a "Late" 2009 model, then that would support High Sierra.
The OP mentioned "early" which I assume is part of the model designation.

Use iLife ‘11, if using Snow Leopard:
There are restrictions to Snow Leopard, and one workaround was through iLife ‘11. Uninstall iLife 11, if Snow Leopard is not what you plan to use afterwards. You’ll find them on Amazon or ebay. These are paid-for versions of macOS. These disks are becoming scarcer by the day. Found one of each at a Goodwill store not so long ago, I must say.

This puts the OP's Mac at a greater disadvantage.

That Mac will definitely have a "nostalgic feel".
InterWeb and SpiderWeb are both decent options for now, I can get youtube working on that on 10.6.3
