I was on Pinterest and noticed that something was off on the site. When I left the site I immediately received a pop up saying that I have viruses. They want me to purchase Mc Affee.
Now I am concerned that there is a virus or two on my computer. How do I check if there is one?

It's a scam. A message warning of malware will only be legitimate if it's in response to manually starting a scanner or uploading a file to a website.
