The built-in Boot drive in Mac Studio and most Macs today is not a traditional rotating, magnetic "Hard Drive". It is a Solid State Drive (SSD Drive) built from chips, not magnetic disks.
When you empty trash, the blocks that held those files are quickly recycled. There is no 'saving the erasing for later'. There is no magnetic residue after recycling. Those files are gone forever.

On drives that are SSD drives, emptying the Trash will notify the drive controller via TRIM that the blocks are free to be re-used. Within seconds, they will be collected into SuperBlocks and bulk-erased, leaving no trace of the previous data.
By convention, Rotating magnetic drives simply remove the directory entries, and add the unchanged data blocks to the Drive FreeList. Data are not over-written until those blocks are re-used.
If you have State-level enemies, nothing is secure.

Securely empty trash means to permanently remove deleted files from my hard drive, making it more difficult, hopefully impossible for others to recover that data.
Just to add 2 cents here
Unlike a traditional hard drive, an SSD can't simply overwrite existing data.
Before new data can be written, the SSD must erase the flash memory cells that contain old data.
When you delete a file, the operating system typically just marks that space as available—it doesn't immediately erase the underlying data.
Without TRIM, the SSD may assume those blocks still contain valid data and spend extra time moving and erasing data later, which can slow write performance.
macOS Tahoe sends TRIM commands to the SSD indicating which blocks are no longer needed.
The SSD can then,
A - Mark those blocks as invalid.
B - Erase them during idle time.
C - Keep a pool of clean blocks ready for future writes.
This reduces write amplification and helps sustain performance over time
