Braided Apple USB-C cable turning yellow after cleaning with baby wipes

Many baby wipes contain lanolin (a moisturiser) - the residue from which, now effectively impregnated within the weave of the cable jacket, being the [likely] cause of irreversible discolouration. While not recommended for cleaning electronic devices and associated components, some "sensitive" wipes do not contain lanolin or similar.

Cosmetic discolouration of the cable jacket will not affect its performance. However, as already outlined by Katana-San, if you smell burning from the cable it should be discarded and replaced. Any unexpected odours from the device itself need to be investigated; a visit to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) is recommended - where the technicians will be able to assess the device. If a fault or other issue is identified, you'll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:
