One of my kids has lost their family watch (we think it may have been stolen).
I have purchased another one and upon set up it tells me he can't have two watches paired to him at the same time. My research tells me if I unpair it the activation lock is removed and it can be used by whomever finds it.
I'm wondering if there is a way to move him to a new watch without freeing up the missing one to its finder?
That is true, but if you remove it, it will be reset too, and make sure in find my to mark it as stolen for him, then it will be good. My friends have Apple Watch for kids on so I know how to do this. Trust me, you mark it as stolen in find my, then click reset on it, then it will reset itself and yes, after you reset it, whomever finds it afterwards can use it after reset, but none of your personal data is stored on it anymore. Or you can mark it as stolen and then leave it and they are forced to turn it into the police station nearby. Then, it will be reset there and yeah, then you will be good, or if it was a cellular Apple Watch, then cancel the cellular plan on it, then do that. Otherwise when reset they will have a free piggyback mobile plan to work with.
