Auto-update for apps downloaded does not work on iPhones with iOS 26-26.5.2

Why does auto update apps no longer work on new iphone 16 iOS 26.5.2?

..

or my iPhone 14 I had before this one after getting on iOS 26 when it originally came out. But it seems this issue hasn’t been patched in many updates before as I see the issue goes all the way back to iOS 16 based off searches…

this is extremely time consuming, to go manually do all of them a few times a week.. some apps like google and college/employee used working apps update every few days… that’s crazy to inconvenience so many this way. I’ve tried every solution mentioned in all of the current posted questions. It’s very much been my biggest deterrent from even considering a new iPhone for my upgrade this year or even next without this specific issue many people have had for years is resolved..

if there is a real solution, that isn’t auto refresh in background, updates allowed over cellular, WiFi, no permissions to change it to either one off so it can freely update on both… I have MANY screen recordings of this. It has actually cost me business and time and money to have to manually update my apps I use during work because the iPhones we use have decided to not function the way as intended while we are attending to our own customers.

will be switching to Nothing phones if this can’t be resolved quickly.

I’d also like to state my husband has an iPhone as well, his is a 14 pro. His also has this same issue and he is on iOS 26.5

my sister who has her own plan, own phone, (17 pro max), on iOS 26.5.2 also states she deals with this on a regular basis so she no longer uses her iPhone for more than the music and phone functions, she bought a galaxy she uses as her phone for social media, content creation, and her job where they rely on being able to communicate virtually with each other through a private app their company runs. Which also gets regular updates.

so this isn’t just me, and it’s really turning a lot of us away from iPhones. And the ones we get for companies and business lines.
