iPhone text notifications affected by hearing aids

That would be something I'd ask of the manufacturer of your hearing aids. Maybe there's a setting in their app if they have one? I doubt this is an iPhone issue. You could look here and see if anything helps --> Accessibility features for hearing on iPhone - Apple Support

setting up AUDIBLE alerts on the iPhone is tricky

settings > Apps > Messages > Notifications...

... the tricky part is that even after you have set up Visual alerts, you need to click on the items labelled "Sounds"

This will allow you to choose haptics and sounds, but there is no expected ON/Off AT ALL! If you want none, you choose the NONE Haptic and the NONE Sound.

I chose the longest most annoying ones to be certain I get them:

• Haptic: Symphony

NB> if you choose a long annoying Sound, the haptics setting "Synchronized" will vibrate in time with the Sound

• Sound: Classic > Update

I wear Resound Vivia Hearing Aids, and use them with Resound Smart-3D with an iPhone 11 in an environment that includes an older Mac and an Apple Watch and a TV Streamer-2.

My experience is that Notifications of text messages on Apple devices suing the same Apple-ID is Black Magic.

Notification Arrival seems almost arbitrary and capricious. I have not detected any connection with proximity of my Hearing Aids.

To make things worse, I am in a cellar near-dead zone, inside a house of solid masonry construction. I have installed multiple different Wi-FI access points to get adequate Wi-Fi coverage.

My observations:

• if iPhone message notifications are on, I eventually get a notification on my phone, forwarded audibly to my Hearing Aids -- UNLESS Mac messages is running, see below. Sometimes the Mac will produce a notification up to a minute or two before the iPhone notification.

• If Mac Messages.app is open, the notification happens on the Mac, ONLY, and there seem to be NO notifications of incoming messages on ANY other devices.

• If Watch Messages notifications are active, the Watch itself tries to send a pitiful little sound and vibrate, by itself (which I almost always do not perceive, even on strongest settings). And there are NO notifications on any other devices. And No Hearing Aid notification whatsoever.

IF anyone reading this has any more information about the rules of how Message Notifications is SUPPOSED to work, I would love to discuss it, and I expect others would as well.

It is interesting to me that the watch, if present, is a peripheral of the iPhone

If you use a remote Mike or TV streamer, its sound takes a short-cut. That audio bypasses there iPhone completely.

I can't imagine why they would recommend turning off any security option in Face ID and Passcode would be a solution? I'd push them harder on this.

I don't understand the issue.

.what device do you want to get the audible text message alert, and where is it coming instead?

Is your Mac nearby and in use?

Do you have an Apple Watch?

the notification on the watch is useless for me, because I almost never hear it. It also appears that a regular Wi-Fi (not cellular) watch is treated as a peripheral of its iPhone. Some Apple articles suggest you can only have ONE of those two getting audible alerts, and so I turned the watch so-called 'audible' alerts OFF.

I get an iPhone incoming message audible alert that punches through at normal volume even when the Hearing Aid audio is muted. I was working in my shop earlier, and muted and put on hearing protectors to use the Router. My wife texted me about something, and the alert sound played at normal volume.

BUT - I only get an audible alert on the iPhone when Mac Messages app is NOT running. If Mac Message App is running the audible alert occurs at my Mac, and generally NOT at my iPhone. It appears that the rule it is following is, if I appear to be using my computer, the alert will be delivered at the computer.

But sometimes it does something different, just because.

If you use an Apple Watch, by default notifications go to either your Apple Watch or iPhone — not both:

• If your iPhone is unlocked, you get notifications on your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch.

• If your iPhone is locked or asleep, you get notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked. When you read or dismiss notifications on your Apple Watch, they’re also dismissed from your iPhone.

I suppose if all were left active, when a message arrived, your phone, your watch, and your Mac would all sound at about the same time.

But I would rather have that than what I have now.
