Sorting specific areas of a spreadsheet

Ok, I have a large spreadsheet that is organized by areas. I want to sort only one area of the sheet. I go to the sheet select sort, highlight the area I want to sort select sort specific rows and then designate the column to sort by then “sort now” and nothing happens! What am I leaving out?

You're leaving out that you're trying to run Numbers like Excel. They are not the same.

While the model in Excel uses a monolithic sheet, Numbers opts for discrete tables, so you should look to separate the 'areas' into separate tables.

Numbers applies sorting table-wide, so once your areas are separated, you're free to sort and filter the various tables independently.
