Apple USB-C EarPods center button not controlling playback

Hi, I recently bought a pair of Apple USB-C EarPods directly from Apple and I’ve just unboxed them. The audio works and the volume buttons work, but the centre button on the inline remote is not working properly. Pressing it once does not play/pause music, and double pressing does not skip tracks. The only thing that works is holding the button, which brings up Siri. I have restarted my iPhone 17 and tested them, but the issue is still there. As they are brand new, I would like help getting them checked or replaced.
