Media playback stops working on FCPX 12.3

my media won't playback when I hit spacebar. The pause icon in the middle changes from play to pause back and forth and I can move my cursor but the screen is blank when hovering over media and audio won't play either. It will work after I restart Final Cut but then will come back again repeatedly. What is wrong.
