HomePod mini Siri won't provide contact phone numbers

I would like to be able to have my Homepod Mini tell me someone's phone number from my contacts but the response is "I can't get that info for you here". Personal requests are on. It will call people for me but for some reason will not tell me their number. I am saying "hey siri, what is personx's phone number?"

The same request on my iphone results in siri speaking the phone number.

If I ask the homepod who is speaking it responds with my name. Anyone know why this seemingly simple thing won't work?
