How to view old text message notifications on iPhone?

I got text messages from a number, and I wanted to check if it was my friend, whom I gave my number to today. However, when I opened the notification, nothing popped up. I tried looking in the Notification Center; it didn’t show up on there. Is there any way to see this message?
