Is there still no way to delete old AirPlay devices from sound output list

Is there still no way to delete old AirPlay devices from the sound output list? I got a new AppleTV and named it living room for Airplay purposes. My old AppleTV that has been unplugged for over a month still shows up in the list of sound device outputs. It is also called Living Room, so I have to guess. I have done several searches over the last couple of days and I have yet to find a solution. Certainly this is possible, no?

I have gone into System Settings, clicked on my name and removed the AppleTV from the list of devices, but it still shows up in the list of sound output devices. I have an old TV that is still showing up as well even though it is unplugged.

Removing it from your Apple Account device list won’t remove it from AirPlay. Those are separate lists.

I’d check the Home app first. If the old Apple TV or TV is still assigned to a room, remove it there. For the Apple TV, the path is Settings > AirPlay and Apple Home > Room > Remove From Home. Since it’s unplugged, you may need to reconnect it briefly to do that.

If neither device appears in Home, macOS doesn’t have a manual delete button for AirPlay destinations. Restarting the Mac and router may clear the stale discovery entries. In the meantime, I’d give the new Apple TV a slightly different name so you can tell them apart.

Well, after restarting the router, the old AppleTV is gone from the AirPlay list. Thanks again for your help!

You’re welcome. Since it was never added to the Home app, restarting the router and Mac is the next thing I’d try. Hopefully that clears the stale AirPlay entry.

Thanks for the info! I never did set the old AppleTV up in the Home App. My router hasn't been restarted in a while so I'll try that. Thanks again.

Glad that did it. It sounds like the router was holding onto a stale AirPlay entry. Thanks for posting the result—it may help someone else with the same issue.
