MacBook Pro space bar and tab key not working in apps

All of a sudden when I do word processing or type in my web browser the space bar doesn't give me a space, the tab doesn't work. I first noticed this with Microsoft word. But now it is happening with other apps, including the browser (safari)

Why? and how can I fix this.

MAC book Pro 2023-16 GB, M2 chip; Tahoe OS 26.5.2
