MBP USB-C hub randomly disconnects

what sort of cable is being used to connect the Hub to your Mac? any markings on the ends of the cables? how long is this cable?

Ah, I see. That model has a short captive cable. That gets cablingissues off the suspects list.

What is providing the power to this device? The Mac? the Mac power adapter routed Through the Dock? some other arrangement?
