Certain apps on iPad Pro have access to microphone but register no audio

My microphone does not work in specific situations in WhatsApp, and not for Roblox at all. I can call perfectly fine on WhatsApp and record my voice in the Voice Messages app, but both WhatsApp voice notes and Roblox voice chat quieten down my microphone to the point it does not register.

It should be noted that if Roblox did not have access to my microphone, I would know, and that my friends have been able to hear SOME limited audio so the microphone definitely exists.

I am on an iPad Pro 6th gen.

I have updated to the latest version

I have checked — disabled and re-enabled microphone for the apps in question, reinstalled them, updated them and restarted my iPad.

I would ask those communities for help as well, but seeing as this is spread across multiple apps I’ve asked Apple’s too.

If the iPad's microphone and audio work as expected with some Apps - and not others - you have demonstrated that the device hardware is operating normally. As such, any issues will be software or settings related. The first steps, as you have already tried, is to delete (not offload) and reinstall the offending Apps.

Next, ensure that you have updated your iPad to the current version of iPadOS - at the time of writing, this being iPadOS 26.6.

If your iPad and Apps are still not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated or post-update software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, you may need to reset your iPad's settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing a reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to fully reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you might seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:

The audio issue in WhatsApp is a known issue. I’ve had it on some WhatsApp versions and then it’s fixed and a few weeks later it’s broken again. Meta (WhatsApp parent company) updates the app sometimes 2 and 3 times a week. Just keep checking for updates. Meta Support recommends deleting the prior version before installing the new version and make sure you’ve backed up your WhatsApp data first.
