Corrupted Files FCPX?

Corrupted Files FCPX? Putting the final touches on a very large project and the render circle/check box keeps glitching. Google search indicates it's due to a corrupted file. Cleared the cache, closed project, turned off computer multiple times to no avail. Editing on an iMac. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Select the library in the browser sidebar and do

File->Delete Generated Library Files…

check All render files.

There are two different types of FCP files: (1) Media files and (2) Library bundle.

The media files are read-only and are never changed (except for cache). I/O pattern to the media files is large sequential reads. The library bundle is essentially a folder hierarchy that contains many SQLite databases. There is a constant stream of small random reads and writes to the library.

Both media and library should be on directly attached HFS+ or APFS volumes. Ideally this should be APFS, even for rotating mechanical drives. The prior advice about APFS being only for SSDs is out of date. The media and library should not be on ExFAT, NAS, Cloud or any other storage type -- especially the library.

The only meaningful symptom we have to work with is "render circle/check box keeps glitching." That could be almost anything. This message alone does not uniquely indicate some type of file corruption.

We need to know the year and model of your Mac, the version of macOS and the version of FCP. Also, make sure you have plenty of free space on all drives, especially the system volume.

Ben, I have seen the progress wheel do that a few times, but it was not related to corrupt files. Instead of a smooth update of the progress circle, there was an obviously abnormal repetitive blinking or "glitching." I think it happened in conjunction with slow output, slow rendering or a non-ending hung render; I cannot remember.

Whatever it was, I did not have the opportunity to run FCP under the XCode debugger or take Instruments data. I think I made a small change, like rebooting or copying/pasting the timeline clips to another project, and it did not recur.

The OP did not post any details beyond the progress circle glitch. Was it abnormally slow, did FCP hang, was the encoded output damaged or truncated, or what? As you said, we need more info.
