Blocked Contacts Limit Reached

Ever since I upgraded my 17 Pro Max to 26.1 I have not been able to block even one number, while my wife who purchased same time has no issues & its driving me batty. I had hoped the follow up upgrade 26.2 would work and it did not. Now I just updated to 26.6 and I finally get a reason why, I have reached my limit of blocked contacts & it sent me to go delete some. I also searched online and it mentioned 20,000 or even 8,000 blocked will have issues, I only have 3,282 blocked contacts.

Sadly I can only do it one at a time, which stinks. I have unblocked 10 to see if I can any of the new spam calls blocked and it did not work, so I have to delete many more of them one at a time. Does anyone have an idea of how many are acceptable to start blocking again?

How do I sync between phone & Mac? I don't use my phone for mail, just for calls and the contacts are synced.

On your Mac, open the Mail app and go to Mail > Settings > Junk Mail > Blocked. Everything is listed there including the phone numbers and email addresses you have blocked on your phone and as long as the same Apple Account is used on both devices, anything you delete from that list will also delete from your phone. Bulk deleting is done by selecting the first one you want to delete, the Command - Click the last number to select the range to be deleted. Just press the "-" button or the Delete key, and they will also be removed on your phone.

My contact list was blocked after Apple sent me an upgrade. It’s another software bug that Apple.com is becoming famous for. **** sad. Time to switch phone manufacturers.

That is a great idea, also review the Android/Samsung Support forums and you will find posts there saying users are going to switch to the iPhone. Nobody really cares what you do. I bet you can even find a promotion from a cell provider that will give you a free phone and/or pay for you to switch to them.

Why does there need to be a limit at all? We are constantly inundated with spammers, phishers and other bad actors. There is no limit to how many of these people will try to contact us so there should be no limit on how many are blocked. This setting needs to go away completely. If this is truly an iPhone only issue, this is enough to make me leave and get an android after being a 15 year iPhone user. Fix it now!

Please go back and read the thread from the beginning. It has been explained repeatedly why blocking spammers is basically pointless.

No one here cares if you switch to an Android. Buy whatever tool best meets your needs.

Fix it now!

This is a user-to-user forum. No one here can "fix" anything. You can let Apple know all of your thoughts on the matter here:

This is what happens when you don't read past the first post of the thread. Read the thread. It's been explained why. And we don't honestly care if you buy an Android. Of course they have no aggravations at all (LOL). But they did at least figure out why some of them spontaneously caught on fire, so that's good.

I have a little secret: Android phones have a limit also.

And here’s a useful note from Google about email blocking:

  • Blocking vs. marking as spam: Blocking stops one specific address; marking as spam additionally trains email provider's filter to catch similar messages

I’ve eliminated 800 blocked numbers, but I still can’t add a spam number. It always says I’ve reached capacity.

Here is some advice from Google. basically it says that it is foolish to block spam numbers:

How do you mark them as SPAM? I am unable to mark any calls or texts as SPAM, please help me learn how to do it.
17 Pro Max, iOS 26.6

For a message open the message app, swipe from right to left on the message, tap the red trashcan, then tap Delete and Report Spam.

For phone calls, open recents and again swipe from right to left and tap the hand to report the call as spam.

So just touching the trashcan does it vs sliding it all the way off? I touched it and it went away w/o any ability to mark as SPAM.
FYI

I'm assuming you're referring to phone calls? Some calls don't offer the hand, while some do. I don't honestly know why some won't. But for text messages, you almost always have the option to tap Delete and Report Spam.

this has happened to me, I had over 4000 blocked numbers and emails which I am certain I have not blocked that many, I have a new phone so possibly could not have done that many. It says to delete blocked numbers and or emails which I have done over 2000 and I still can not block another number. How dumb with the technology that we have to delete one at a time. So frustrating.

Also Blocked contacts in Iphone & Mac Mail (Settings>Jun>Blocked contacts) are different & are not syncing

Since I saw this post, I decided to try to delete my blocked contacts because I have received that message before. And then, instead of saving the blocked contact, I’ve just been deleting them all. But that probably doesn’t help at all. I would like to check if there’s a way to delete blocked contacts without re-adding them to your contacts before deleting??
