MacBook Pro Touch ID only works unplugged post-repair

On your M-series Mac you can try A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support this will sort many anomalies.

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

I assume this repair was done at Apple or Authorized Apple Service Provider, so I would recommend taking it back to them.

That should work as well unless you mean you are using a third party power adapter which could complicate things, but even then I would expect the TouchID to work. You should consider taking the laptop back to Apple or the AASP so they can figure it out while since it was just returned from repair.

While I was without my MacBook, I upgraded my desk situation with a standing desk and a power supply that wasn't working with the BIG, bulky charger. So, I was using just the C-type. I had NEVER done this before. Well... looks like that is what was doing it.

Touch-ID worked fine when opened unplugged.

Touch-ID works fine when opened and plugged in to super big base.

Touch-ID does not work at all when plugged in to just C-type.
