17 Pro Max: 'Liquid detected in charge port' hardware issue?

Is there a hardware issue causing the “liquid detected in charge port” message? I’ve had two 17 pro max that have done it (the 2nd one is a replacement for the first one with the same issue!)

Thanks

Im in the UK.

If it happens only when you plug it in, try a different cable/charger combination. That would explain why you see the same thing on 2 devices, and a failing cable may start by being intermittent.

I agree with Mac Jim ID that you may have a defective cable. Try a different cable. Of course out of the more a Billion iPhones out there, there are likely to be some with issues, but having two in row with the same issue is not something we see here at all.

My wife's phone is a 17 pro and has the same issue. Started out of the blue in the middle of the night, alert woke us up like an Amber alert. Phone was fine at the end of the prior day. No physical damage. I have the same phone, we share the same chargers (all Apple), I've never had this issue. Apple store replaced her charging port and told us if it continues: reset the software and if that didn't work they'd replace the phone. Did both, issue persists, Apple Support on the phone says they can't do see the same thing as the store bc (insert lame corporate technical excuse to dodge accountability). They said we can send it in to a higher level group but if they can't recreate the issue they'd send it back. The issue is intermittent and likely this would happen and she'd be in the same spot w/o a phone for days. We have already submitted all screenshots/recordings to Apple to prove it and alert sounded while on the phone w/Apple support. Apple support admitted there is a BLIND SPOT IN ADDRESSING INTERMITTENT TECHNICAL ISSUES and they simply leave the customer out in the cold on this one.

I think the point lobsterghost1 was making that a systemic device issue would be blowing up here with the same posts and that has not been seen.

There are 2 cases where we do see those posts made:

  1. There actually is water in the port
  2. There is damage to the cable/charger

That is not to say that a port can never be damaged and require service, but seeing that on 2 different devices is very unlikely and certainly not heard of here by anyone else.

If there was really a hardware issue with the charging port on the newest iPhones, this forum would be flooded with people complaining, but they're not. The tech press would be all over this, but they're not. I've never has a liquid detected issue on any iPhone I've ever owned and I get the newest iPhone yearly, so that covers my 17 Pro Max and the other half's, 17 Pro.
