Books crashes on open in Macos26.6: wifi is off, in safe mode, after deleting prefs and running first aid. Still crashes after (say) 10 seconds.
Any suggestions from the genii?

In the absence of any replies so far: Adding a few thoughts / suggestions below:
There are various possible causes / solutions to the situation:
(1) Simply quitting Books app
restarting Mac (Apple menu > Restart)
re-opening Books app ... may restore order.
(2) Turning off VPN, if installed, often makes a difference, (yet it can be still running in the background, hogging resources, or causing interference). If supplied by an employer it is generally ok. Else using an uninstaller from the developer can remove it with all its associated files.
(3) If installed : Unnecessary third party apps such as ad-blockers, virus checkers, cleaners, and the like are often found to be the cause of issues that arise. (Use uninstallers)
(4) Any third-party apps found necessary should be kept up-to-date so they don't cause compatibility issues.

(6) A Mac generally needs around 50 Gb storage space available in which to operate smoothly. You can check via Apple menu > System Settings > General > Storage.
