im trying to extend my wireless system using 2 AirPort Express’s
I think I’ve configured them right but the range hasn’t changed ! It’s like I’m connecting to the base all the time

The Apple AirPort Express base stations use an Apple propriety method to extend a wireless network that is created by another AirPort base station. It will not do so with any other brand of wireless router or access point.
So, the first question is: what is the make & model of the wireless router or access point that is providing your current wireless network, that you want to extend with these base stations? Would it be an Apple Time Capsule that we can see in the images you provided?
Second question: What are the exact models of your Express and Time Capsule devices?
To extend your Wi-Fi range with two AirPort Express units, they must be set up to wirelessly extend an existing Apple main base station, and your devices must support Apple's older roaming or extending protocols. If they are plugged in via Ethernet, they should create a new network with the exact same name, rather than "extending" wirelessly.
