Motion 6.3 viewer black, playback issues on 2018 MacBook Pro

Hello everyone,

I’m having a serious problem with Motion 6.3 on my 2018 MacBook Pro.

System information

  • MacBook Pro 2018
  • Sequoia 15.7.7
  • 2.9 GHz 6-core Intel Core i9
  • 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM
  • AMD Radeon Pro 560X with 4 GB VRAM
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630 with 1536 MB
  • Final Cut Pro 12.3
  • Motion 6.3

Problem

Whenever I launch Motion 6.3 and import a file, the Viewer remains completely black. This happens regardless of the file type I import.

The playback controls also do not work. I cannot play the project normally and have to move through it manually. I have tried the troubleshooting steps described in Apple’s support documentation, including the available interface and viewer-related options, but nothing resolved the issue.

What I have tried

Interestingly, I found an older version of Motion—Motion 5.10. After uninstalling Motion 6.3 and installing Motion 5.10, everything worked normally.

However, when I uninstall Motion 5.10 and reinstall Motion 6.3, the black Viewer and playback problems immediately return. This appears to be specific to Motion 6.3 rather than my media files or hardware.

Has anyone experienced the same issue with Motion 6.3 on a 2018 Intel MacBook Pro?

Is there a known fix or workaround other than continuing to use Motion 5.10? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.
