Are you a "time traveler?" What update are you actually referring to. The latest update released by Apple your phone can be updated to is iOS 26.6, which was release by Apple on July 27. It includes bug fixes and will reindex all the data on your iPhone (which can take several days) to prepare your iPhone for iOS 27.
If you can't make or receive calls or texts, that's something you'd need to seek help from your carrier. Those services are not provided by Apple to begin with.

August 26, 2026 has not yet occurred, and our crystal ball is still cloudy in that regard.
No issues at all here on any of the iOS devices that are running iOS 26.6
FWIW my wife relies on automatic updates. 26.6 finally installed around August 10th
