Apple hub extender: One USB port not working

I have a 2022 macbook pro and an Apple hub extender with two USB ports and one HDMI. Only one of the ports works. I’ve tried connecting it on both ports on the computer but it doesn’t make a difference. Is it defective? Does it have a very short life? If so, is there anything better?

I think the device you have is named Apple "USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter"

Overview

The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your USB-C–enabled Mac, iPad, or iPhone to an HDMI display, while also connecting a standard USB [-A] device and a USB-C charging cable.

Use the standard USB [-A] port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iOS devices. You can also connect a charging cable [ONLY] to the USB-C port to charge your Mac, iPad, or iPhone.

Verify the Battery Health:

My 2023 MPB has 86% Battery Health remaining, whereas my 2021 MacBook Pro has 100% Battery Health Remaining. Oddly enough, I use the 2021 MBP much more. when the Battery Health reaches below 80%, Apple recommends a new battery.

To Check:

  1. Go to: System Settings
  2. Click: Battery
  3. View: Battery Health (top-item)
  4. Click: the encircled "i
  5. What Percentage is shown for Battery Health?

no, you can not plug a USB-C cable into 120 or 240 Volts power.

¿Do you mean you are using the original shipped-in-the-box Apple Power Adapter on the other end of that USB-C cable? Or a different power source?

And how are you deciding that the Mac is or is not charging? What is the power level when you plug it in? What does the on-screen indicator say for power/charging state?
