What do you mean by "synchronize the media?"
What is a "strip" and is it freezing during playback in the Browser or in the Project Timeline?
Does audio still play, or do both audio and video freeze?
First, verify that a minimum of 15% of your system drive is still free space.
Delete prefs (launch while holding Opt+Cmd).
Delete all render files, turn off background rendering.
Verify, if using an external drive, it is formatted APFS.
What codec is the video you're editing?
