Access shared folders using SMB from non-Apple devices using "Share only" account

We would like to share with you how you can do that.

I have created a "Share only" account "SomeUser" and shared specific folder. When I have tried to access my Mac using the "SomeUser" account, it has not been possible to setup the connection. With standard accounts I could access the folder/accounts.

Reason: Windows File Sharing could not be activated via System Preferences

Solution:

use terminal:

pwpolicy -u SomeUser -sethashtypes SMB-NT on
sudo dscl . -passwd /Users/SomeUser "UserPassword"

Hope this helpful. In case there are further alternatives let me know
