Custom key commands for tool switching keep reverting — anyone else?

I've been running into something strange, and I'm posting to see if anyone else has the same issue or knows a fix.

I use a number of custom key command assignments, mostly for Set tool in various windows. For example:

• V — Set Pointer Tool
• D — Set Pencil Tool

Since Logic Pro 12, though, this hasn't been working reliably. Fairly often, the tool I switch to with a shortcut immediately reverts to the previous tool when followed by left mouse click.

In the linked video, I'm on the Pencil Tool and pressing V to switch to the Pointer Tool. Right after pressing the key, I left-click on an empty area of the timeline — and you can see it revert to the previous tool.

It's pretty distracting to work with. Is this just me, or did I set something up wrong?
