Duplicate songs on Apple Watch music playlists

I have a number of Apple Music playlists on my Apple Watch Ultra (1st Gen - OS 26.6), and on my watch they have duplicated the songs on every playlist I have created. It doesn't appear to happen on the apple generated playlists, and doesn't appear on apple music on my phone or macbook.

I tried a suggestion from reddit to "open the playlist on AW and scroll to the bottom. Then, using your iPhone, add a random song to the playlist (for usefulness you can add one of the suggested songs at the bottom of each playlist)." but this didn't resolve the issue.

please try this

Force a Playlist Resync via the Watch App

Removing the playlists entirely from the watch storage and re-adding them forces watchOS to rebuild the database container cleanly.

Open the Watch App on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap Music.
Look under the Playlists & Albums section.
Swipe left on each of your duplicated custom playlists and tap Delete.
Restart both your iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra.
Return to the Watch App ➔ Music and tap Add Music to re-sync those playlists.
