Apple TV 4K Apple TV app not showing Buy or Rent options

I have an Apple TV 4K running tvOS 26.6. In the Apple TV app on the Apple TV, all movies and TV shows only show “Play”, and when I press it, I am redirected to TV 2 Play.

However, on my iPhone, using the exact same Apple Account, I can see “Buy or Rent” and the prices for the same movies.

I have already checked that the correct Apple Account is signed in, the Store account is signed in, the region is set to Norway, TV 2 Play is disabled as a connected app, tvOS is fully updated, and I have signed out and back into the Store account without any change.

I would like help figuring out why my Apple TV 4K does not show the “Buy” or “Rent” options, while the same Apple Account works correctly on my iPhone.

try this

Even if a third-party app is disabled in settings, the Apple TV app caches deep-links for individual titles.

  • Locate the affected titles in your Up Next queue or search for them.
  • Press and hold the clickpad center (or select the three dots ...) on the movie thumbnail.
  • Select Remove from Watchlist or Remove from Up Next.
  • Completely restart your Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart).
  • Search for the movie again to check if the "Buy/Rent" option has returned.

When I highlight a movie and press and hold the center of the clickpad, nothing happens. There is no menu that allows me to remove the movie from Up Next/Watchlist.

The mentioned contextual menu is only available from within the Continue Watching (formerly Up Next) row of tiles. In any other area of the app, it would not show the same menu options.

I have also tried searching for the movies again after restarting the Apple TV, but the problem remains.
  1. Did you try to sign out (for Store services), then sign in again? Please try if you haven’t already.
  2. Do you get the Buy/Rent options for titles from within the Store tab in the TV app?
  3. When you scroll down on a movie title page, down to How to Watch, you should see all options from all available content providers for that title, including Apple’s media Store. This would ‘overrule’ any automatic Play option at the top of the page.

I would appreciate it if you could investigate whether this is a known issue with the Apple TV app/tvOS 26.6, particularly in Norway.

This is a user-to-user forum, without Apple staff participating. We can try to replicate issues, but actual investigation is very limited. To get assistance with or report or discuss confirmed issues, please contact Apple Support.

The region is set to Norway.

It would require other users from Norway to do a proper comparison. Users in other countries may not get the same results, if the issue is specific to your region (or local third party apps).

Hi, thanks for your reply. I tried your suggested steps, but unfortunately this does not work in my case.

When I highlight a movie and press and hold the center of the clickpad, nothing happens. There is no menu that allows me to remove the movie from Up Next/Watchlist.

I have also tried searching for the movies again after restarting the Apple TV, but the problem remains.

The important part is that this problem affects all movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app on my Apple TV 4K. They all only show “Play”, and when I select Play, I am redirected to TV 2 Play.

This happens even with movies that are clearly available for purchase or rental in the Apple TV Store.

For example, on my iPhone, using the exact same Apple Account, I can open the same movie and I get the options “Buy or Rent”, including the correct price. However, on the Apple TV 4K, the exact same movie only shows “Play” and redirects me to TV 2 Play.

I have already checked and tried the following:

  • The correct Apple Account is signed in on the Apple TV.
  • The Store account is signed in with the same Apple Account.
  • The region is set to Norway.
  • TV 2 Play has been disabled as a connected app.
  • I have signed out of the Store account and signed back in.
  • I have restarted the Apple TV.
  • The Apple TV is running the latest available tvOS version (tvOS 26.6).
  • I have checked the Apple TV app settings.
  • I have tested multiple different movies and TV shows, not just one particular title.
  • The same titles show Buy/Rent correctly on my iPhone, using the same Apple Account.

So this does not appear to be a problem with one specific movie, Up Next, or an individual deep link. It appears that the Apple TV app on the Apple TV is incorrectly redirecting all available content to TV 2 Play instead of showing the Apple Store purchase/rental options.

I would appreciate it if you could investigate whether this is a known issue with the Apple TV app/tvOS 26.6, particularly in Norway, or whether there is another setting/cache/database that needs to be reset.

If there is a way to completely refresh or reset the Apple TV app’s content/provider information without resetting the entire Apple TV, please let me know.

I can also provide screenshots showing the difference between the Apple TV 4K and my iPhone if that would help.

Thanks.
