Magic Keyboard caps lock and brightness keys not working

I am running Sonoma 26.5.2, and using an apple magic keyboard with numeric pad. The keyboard has been running just fine until yesterday, the caps lock button stopped capitalizing letters. Then this morning, the darker/brighter keys (denoted above F1 and F2 stopped working as well. I don't think I've done anything to turn functionality off. The magic keyboard is about a year/18 months old. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, other macOS users experience intermittent Magic Keyboard function and modifier key unresponsiveness on Sonoma. Fix this by turning the keyboard off and back on, forgetting and re-pairing the Bluetooth device inSystem settings or testing the keys via the built-in macOS Keyboard Viewer to rule out a hardware failure.
