Earbuds play audio on iPhone 17 despite volume set to zero

My earbuds keep playing even though the volume is set 0

I got an iphone 17 few days back and everything was fine with my earbuds until yesterday. I wanted to mute them but they just keep playing, ive tried everything. Forgetting them on Bluetooth, restarting the phone, hard reset or restarting the wifi. Nothing works. This happens on apps like tiktok, spotify or youtube while instagram works fine and i can mute them without a problem. Ive even connected them to my old Android and they work perfectly fine. Is it an ios 26.6 glitch or something else is wrong? No app or even any brand for earbuds, ive got them for over 3 years

Can anyone help?

Since the earbuds mute normally on your old Android phone, and Instagram can mute them on the iPhone, I wouldn’t suspect a hardware failure.

I’d update the iPhone first. iOS 26.6.1 (23G83) is now available, so if you’re still on 26.6, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the update.

Then test Spotify, YouTube, and TikTok again while audio is playing and lower the media volume with the side buttons. Apple’s volume controls are supposed to adjust the current media audio when media is playing. (support.apple.com)

Since you’ve already restarted, forgotten and re-paired the earbuds, I wouldn’t reset anything else yet. If it still happens on 26.6.1, the fact that only certain apps are affected would be useful to report.
