Add a specific control to the Control Centre on iPhone

Hi

There is a specific control I want to add to my Control Centre. It's found in Setup > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Audio Routing > Media Audio. In Media Audio I'd like to be able to toggle between the two options. I've looked in the standard add-ons and it can't be found. This is instead of having to go into Setup and go through the whole process of finding Media Audio in order to toggle. Can this be done?

Many thanks

Brian

I understand now.

If the control is not in the gallery then there's no way to add it to Control Center.

In the case of that specific toggle for Hearing Devices it does not appear to haver an associated control Center control that can be added.

You might be able to set up a Shortcut to get you there, and add it to the control Center.

Open the Shortcuts App, tap on the + icon to create a new shortcut, in the Search Actions search bar enter Open URLs and then tap it in the search results.

Tap on the light URL box and enter the following:

prefs:root=ACCESSIBILITY&path=HEARING_AID_TITLE (caps are important)

Tap on the blue checkmark to save. You may want to rename it to something easier to find by tapping at the very top and editing the name there. When you are done tap the < icon to exit the editor.

Then go to control center, and follow the steps to add a new control, search for Shortcuts, and tap on Shortcut, then on "Choose" and look for the shortcut you just created it should be there at the top.

Tap it to add it to the Control Center.

Then tap anywhere outside an icon to end the edit session. The next time you tap on the shortcut there it will take you straight to Hearing devices.

You may want to play around with the path to add the sub menus like "path=HEARING_AID_TITLE/AUDIO_ROUTING_TITLE/MEDIA_AUDIO_TITLE or similar; can't be sure what the actual path is since Apple does not document this and I don't own hearing aids to test the path with so I don't see the full path and can't get to it to see if it actually works. At worse it should at least shorten the amount of taps to get to the Media Audio controls.

The error indicates you copied and pasted text with special formatting. i.e the bold text I used. Try as mentioned Textedit or just typing it yourself.

As to the Pref Roots and path, those are 2 parameters off the URL and both are required. prefs:root, prefs short for preference and root indicates in what part of the Settings app the url needs to begin, then path indicates where in that section of the Settings App the shortcut needs to take you. You need both parts.

The path is added by the forward slashes each sub menu title after a forward slash, this is all guess work as Apple ha son list of paths and its hard to determine what the actually called the location. I'm just guessing it's the section name plus the worked title, but I could be totally wrong.

As I said I can't test this because I don't have hearing aids so I don't see the specific location in Settings and Apple does not publish specific paths, so this is all trial and error to get the shortcut to open that section of the Settings App. It may or may not work either way.

Thanks Phil. I did just that. Scrolled down to Hearing Accessibility, but I cannot find anything near where I need to be. I need to be able to get into Media Audio (Setup > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Audio Routing > Media Audio. In Media Audio), to be able to toggle between those three options. Do you understand what I'm getting at? As a point of interest, when I scroll down to Hearing Accessibility are those the only controls there are or am I able to make a new one?

Phil

Presto! I entered the first path above, went into Control Centre and I have it on the Home Screen. Perfect. Problem is that when I press the icon it stops before where I want it be go. The second path above I entered and did the same. Went into Control Centre, pressed the icon and an error appears. Why do you use in the one pref:root and in the other "path"?

Phil.

Sorry. In the middle of writing to you I had to go out. I'm back and I'd like to go over with you my previous message together with the attached photo. Your first URL, can I call it, prefs:root=ACCESSIBILITY&path=HEARING_AID_TITLE works and I added the icon onto my Home Screen. As I said "perfect", but as I said it does not take me exactly to where I want to toggle between the 3 options in the "Media Audio" screen. It takes me to the Hearing Devices screen and I need to access 2 links- Audio Routing and then Media Audio. It's no great shakes, but would make it much cleaner.

The second URL, "path=HEARING_AID_TITLE/AUDIO_ROUTING_TITLE/MEDIA_AUDIO_TITLE, I see that the destination screen, "MEDIA_AUDIO" on which I should be able to toggle, brings up an error that you see above. My question is:

  1. What is the difference between pref:root................ and "path=.................. ? If the former URL works is there a way to join the two URLs together? For instance:

prefs:root=ACCESSIBILITY&path=HEARING_AID_TITLE to combine with AUDIO_ROUTING_TITLE/MEDIA_AUDIO_TITLE. The question is how to combine those two parts into one? Am I right in my assessment?

I'd appreciate it if you could help me on this URL to get me onto the Media-Audio screen. And, is here anywhere that I can learn how to build these URLs. Are they called URLs? It was so cool to see the URL work when I added it to the Control Centre. Adding it to the Home Screen blew me away. Instead of having to go into Settings and work your way to Media-Audio.

Am I making sense, Phil. I'd really appreciate your feedback and assistance.

Many thanks

Brian

'could not convert from Rich text to URL'

suggests you pasted that string in with its fancy formatting complete, and the software balked at that.

To strip a character string of its formatting, I paste the string into a TextEdit document.

Then convert the TextEdit document it is in to Plain text. (Select all, Format menu > make Plan text )

Then copy the string out of there for use elsewhere.
