I have an iphone XR I wish to put face ID on it but I find that having gone from settings there is no place on the Rideout grid says passwords and face ID can you help .?

That usually indicates an issue with the Face ID system or TrueDepth camera at the moment.
Try restarting the iPhone, and see if Face ID becomes available again.
