Numbers cannot be updated to the latest version

When I opened a Numbers, it popped up "To collaborate, you’ll need to update Numbers, or use Numbers on the web." But after being directed to the App Store, there is no "Update" button. Instead, there is only "Open" button.

The version of installed Numbers is 15.2 while the latest version is 15.3.1.

I’d check the App Store’s Updates section first, rather than the Numbers product page. If 15.3.1 is available for your Mac, the Update button should appear there. Apple lists Numbers 15.3 as requiring macOS 15.6 or later, so macOS 26.5 itself shouldn’t be the blocker.

One other thing worth checking: Apple changed Pages, Numbers, and Keynote starting with version 15.1 so they were downloaded as new apps rather than normal updates from the older versions. Make sure you don’t have more than one copy of Numbers in your Applications folder.

If Updates still shows nothing, what version does Numbers > About Numbers show when you open the copy in Applications?
