Text to speech stutters and becomes garbled. Why?

There are various possible reasons, and we are limited to what we know from your post to us. As Apple users, just as you are, any answer would only be guessing.


A few of the possible reasons may include:

  • interference from third-party (non-Apple) software or apps on your Mac,
  • interference with wi-fi, or with internet connection,
  • interference from VPN,
  • apps running in the background hogging CPU use,
  • system not updated to the most recent recent MacOS version,

(or a bug in the software version that you are using),

  • lack of memory / storage capacity available causing Mac to struggle instead of operating smoothly.
  • rate of speech (or other settings) needs adjusting


You may be able to rule out some of the above possible reasons, to narrow down where to troubleshoot. Please feel free to post us more questions, or provide more info. about the situation.
