How to fix Logic Pro X crashing during Audio Units scan on Mac Pro?

Logic Pro X crashes midway though Audio Units scan.

Despite not having updated or downloaded anything new, plugins suddenly not loading up this afternoon: names showing up on the mixer Insert & Instrument slots but dimmed and not-clickable.

Rescanned Audio Units, and Logic crashed.

Deleted cache and temporarily removed components from Library folder, and all started up hunky dory, only without most plugins.

Returned components to Library and same problem.

Please don’t tell me I’m going to have to individually add the components for 390 Audio Units. 😱😱😱

I don't tell what you have to do, I just explain what I would do.

I would

... create a (timemachine) backup.
... check the console app, if I can find some hints. Applications > Utilities > Console > Crash reports
... open Logic without audio or plug-ins and in Audio Units safe mode. Use startup modifier keys with Logic Pro for Mac - Apple Support . If it's possible to open Logic with this methods, the issue is very likely caused by a certain plugin.
To avoid checking all plugins individually, I would do this in batches. I would quit Logic, create an additional folder e.g. on the desktop and move all components into it. The component folder should be empty now. Next, I would try to open Logic with the empty component folder. If that works, check the plugin manager, there should be no other plugin than the bulit-ins. If you still see the moved plugins, you need to restart your computer/sing out and back in to your account. Then I would take a bunch of plugs and repeat the process over and over untill I've found the culprit.

The older the plugins the higher the probability they are creating issues.

Thanks, Ben. I removed all the components then re-added them 50% at a time in ever smaller batches to narrow down the one that was causing the crash… and it didn’t crash. 😖

However, one track in particular kept getting stuck on opening, loading one Waves plugin that curiously wasn’t even being used in the track. 🤷

I’ve completely uninstalled that one plugin so hopefully that should fix it. I’ve noticed one of my Waves instruments is no longer showing up in the menu so wonder if this is a sign of the enshittification of Waves…
